The Football and Life Academy has been developed through Transforming Learning funding and provides young people with an opportunity to develop their football skills at any level and to simultaneously learn new "life skills". The programme is 6 weeks long and is delivered at local football venues with a unique "pitchside learning" model.

Each young person commits to improving their personal skills and setting goals for the future whilst learning to handle their emotions, planning and improving team playing skills through the medium of football. Over 30 young people completed the Academy in 2009 - many are now in work or training. We have two football teams playing in local leagues.

Energizers is a joint project with Reaseheath College and a fantastic opportunity for residents aged 16-10 to explore their options in further education.

Learners work on an intensive induction programme based at the YMCA for 4 weeks. This includes gym sessions (including fitness tests, pad boxing and body building) and healthy food research. Learners also have taster sessions at Reaseheath College to help them familiarise themselves with college life.

In Week 4, students progress to the college and attend for 2 days a week on a selection of taster days up to 12 hours a week. All courses offered at the college are available.

My World is a customised training course that offers young people the opportunity to explore their interests and, through doing so, develop their own personal skills.

Trainees study leisure time, my place in history, my hidden self, my body, my music, my rights and entitlements, my place in the community and my understanding of the world.
