Two residents from the Foyer@189 have been selected to represent England at this
year's Homeless World Cup. James Buckley and Daniel Thornton were selected from over
1000 young people who attended this year's trials; they successfully made it through
the regional and nationals and have been selected for the final the 8 man squad.
The lads will be travelling out to Paris at the end of August to take part in a 10
day tournament - the matches will take place at a purpose built pitch by the Eiffel
Tower. Chad Healey, the Health and Fitness Worker at the Foyer@189 said, "The fact
that our lads have made it this far is a testament to their attitude as much as
it is to their football ability, they have both shown tremendous character and determination
through the whole process. The football has given them a positive focus which has
enabled them to address some of the negative issues they were facing. They have both
been brilliant and we are all really proud of how far they have come, they just can't
wait for Paris, they are so exited and it will open so many more doors for them afterwards!".
Sixty four national teams are taking part in the tournament in the heart of the French
capital, 400 fast paced matches will be filmed and available to view on www.homelessworldcup.org.
